Fantastic set of Johanna Basford designs to color and frame!

[[VIDEOID:c23416e78ed3a054da452cec85bd23e3]]At last! A beautiful set of artist's edition coloring prints based on Johanna Basford's fantastic coloring book adventure "Secret Garden". In the artist's edition, there are 20 beautiful prints. The format is larger than the original book at approximately 10 x 13 inches. The paper is a great weight cardstock and best of all: the prints are printed only on the front of the page. Yay! No more choices of which side or design you want to color or having to buy a second book (unless you want to, of course.)
A quick check showed that my pencils, gel pens, and all markers worked well without any ink leaching through. If I decide to use watercolors, I would probably still place a sheet of freezer paper or heavy stock paper between the pages or remove the page from the book just in case something leaks through.
The designs are filled with intricate details and are a mix of ones that are centered with lots of blank space around them and others that bring the design edge-to-edge. There won't be a problem with getting into the last little bits as these designs are easily pulled out from the booklet form. The publisher put these in a format that makes it easy to color, pull apart, and then frame should you wish to do so.
I am so thrilled that the artist and publisher have heard and listened to the requests of those of us who love her work. I hope to see further editions of artist's sets - both for the "Secret Garden" and for the "Enchanted Forest" and any future coloring books Ms. Basford designs.
I further hope that other artists and publishers take note of how appreciated this style of book is for colorists. We spend a lot of time and money with our hobby and want good materials. Designs can be very pretty but if they are difficult to work with, a lot of us will simply pass.
As Ms. Basford's original book set the high standard for adult coloring books to follow, this artist's edition sets another standard for high quality, coloring sets suitable for framing.

Stunning images, printed on heavy card stock all markers can be used & no bleed through

Stunning! 20 of the Best Imaginative images from "Secret Garden" printed one per page on heavy paper (No Bleed Through),
This is a wonderful collection of charming illustrations following in the footsteps of one of our favorite Coloring Books, “Secret Garden”. This book has enchanted both boys and girls and captivated adults around the world with its intricate, delightful, and whimsical illustrations filled with lush flora and charming animals.
Now this special edition that boast20 of the best illustrations from that book have been brought together and created with colorists in mind. Every image is printed one per page on Heavy weight cardstock type paper that is perfect for all markers, gel pens, paints, colored pencils. There is no bleeding through the page, and even the cover can be colored. The special binding keeps the pages in place but also allows for easy removal of pages.
1. This is a wonderful, well made, large coloring book at 13” x 9 7/8” with 20 of our favorite illustrations reprinted from “The Secret Garden” most of the images are the same size they are in secret garden a few are larger, I colored the pictures with Bic Mark it Markers and Sharpie Markers with no bleed through.
2. Each illustration is printed one per page, on very heavy cardstock type paper.
3. The special binding allows for easy removal of pages from the book but also keeps the pages in place if you prefer to keep the book intact.
4. NO Bleeding through the pages: There was no bleed through with any of the markers or gel pens I tested so you can use Bic Mark-it, Sharpies, Straedtler Triplus Fineliner or Fibre Tip pens, Fiskar Gel Pens. Paints, crayons and colored pencils are also options for coloring these wonderful are works.
5. The cover can also be colored.

Lovely format, but only a few images are actually larger

This is a beautiful book for coloring. I love Johanna Basford's work and enjoy coloring her images. I pre-ordered this for myself and a friend, and we are both happy with the new edition though we both own the original.
The new edition has gorgeous thick paper with single-sided pages. I have only used pencils and Staedtler triplus fineliner pens on both, so I can't speak to how other pens or markers do with bleeding.
If you haven't purchased the original edition of Secret Garden, I urge you to get yourself a copy RIGHT AWAY! I would rate this with 6 stars, if I could.
For those who already own the original, you may still want a copy. The paper is lovely. The pages look like they will stay together but look as though they will come out easily if I am careful with them. Every image that I copied from the first to be able to test colors before committing to coloring an image is here. It is truly the best of the best.
Here's my disappointment. There are only 3 photos that are larger, something I hoped might be true in the bigger format. The others are the same with some additional imagery repetition to fill the extra space in only 2 or 3 images.
There are two images that take a two page spread from the original book and slightly alter the layout in interesting ways. One of those is an image that invites the colorer add details one of the characteristics of the original that made me even more interested in purchasing that over other options.
I was tempted to take a star off for the virtually identical images, but can't bring myself to give this less than a 4.5. I do see this as the artist and publisher responding to many requests to provide the images in better paper and in a format that allows the images to be displayed without losing the image in the back side. It is well done from that perspective.
I can't wait to get coloring and hang these up!!
