Die Bücher sind kleiner, als ich erwartet habe (siehe Bild), aber das ist kein Nachteil, da sie ja eigentlich auch für kleinste Kinderhände konzipiert wurden. Die Seiten sind schön dick und der Druck sehr farbenprächtig. Auf jeder Seite ist ein Gegenstand abgebildet in Wort und Bild.Was ich total klasse finde ist die Tatsache, dass es sich bei den Abbildungen tatsächlich um Bilder/Fotos handelt. Also nicht gezeichnet, am Computer generiert, oder wie auch immer. Man sieht den Gegenstand wie er auch im realen Leben aussieht, was ich gerade für die Kleinsten gut finde. Wir hatten schon viele "Meine ersten Wörter/Bilder/Spielsachen/..." Bücher und immer wurde die Wurst oder das Sandspielzeug anders dargestellt.Ich kann die Bücher wärmstens empfehlen.

Diese Bücher sind zwar nur eine begrenzte zeitlang interessant, da aber sehr. Als unsere Zwillinge anfingen erste Worte zu lernen, haben sie sie wochenlang gar nicht mehr aus der Hand gelegt. Wir hatten gleich mehrere Sets und die Bücher in Wohnung, Wickeltasche und Kinderwagen verteilt. Klingt erstmal blöd, aber wir haben schnell gemerkt, dass es praktisch ist, dass unter den Bildern das Wort abgedruckt ist, um die jungen Sprachlerner nicht gleich zu Anfang zu verwirren, indem Mama "Karotte", Papa "Möhre", Oma "Wurzel" und Opa "Mohrrübe" sagt. Auch die Tatsache, dass die Sachen immer gleich aussehen, hat geholfen. Der Schmetterling im Buch ist eben immer ein Pfauenauge. Diese Kontinuität hilft erst einmal Sicherheit zu erlangen, ehe später die Transferleistung einsetzt und die Begriffe allgemeiner zugeordnet werden können.

Ich habe mir das Bücherset für meinen kleinen Sohn (20 Monate) bestellt. Er soll u.a. unseren Adventskalender füllen. Es sind schöne, handliche Bücher die gesamt in einem kleinen Aufsteller aufbewahrt werden können. Bei den Bildern handelt es sich um Fotografien verschiedener Objekte. Teilweise wird die Spielzeugversion gezeigt. Die Auswahl der Bücher ist sehr gut und die Dinge auf den Bildern auch gut erkennbar. Heute wurde das erste Büchlein voller Freude von meinem Sohn entdeckt. Es passt gut in kleine Kinderhände und sie sind auch schön für unterwegs. Die Seiten sind stabil, allerdings nicht ganz so dick wie bei großformatigen Kinderbüchern.Alles in allem würde ich eine Kaufempfehlung aussprechen!Fanden Sie meine Bewertung hilfreich? Nachdem wir schon das Set "Meine kleine Tierwelt" gekauft hatten und unsere Kleinste nach wie vor Spass dabei hat die Bücher durchzublättern und die Tiere nachzumachen haben wir nun auch dieses Set bestellt.Auch hier gilt wieder:Es handelt sich bei dem Angebot um 6 kleine Pappbilderbücher die speziell für die Kleinsten konzipiert sind.Durch die Größe von knapp 7 Zentimeter Seitenlänge eignen sich die Bücher gut für Kleinkinderhände.Auch haben die einzelnen Bücher dadurch nicht so viel Gewicht, dass die Kinder die Bücher wirklich in die Hand nehmen können.Die einzelnen Pappseiten sind sehr stabil und auf jeder Seite ist ein Gegenstand/Tier/Fahrzeug etc. mit Bezeichnung abgebildet.Sehr gut: Bei den Abbildungen handelt es sich um farbgetreue Fotos, also keine Zeichnungen.Fazit: Wir können die Pappbilderbücher der "Kennst Du das?"-Serie uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen.PS: Ich nehme mir viel Zeit die Produkte ausführlich zu testen und meine Erfahrungen als Rezension wiederzugeben.

Ich habe dieses Kinderbuch-Set von Duden als Geschenk für einen ersten Geburtstag gekauft. Das Set enthält 6 tolle Kinderbüchlein, die perfekt für kleine Kinderhände gemacht sind. Die Seiten sind aus dickem Karton, so dass die Seiten auch bei häufigem Umblättern, Herunterfallen oder Ansabbern nicht direkt kaputt gehen. Jedes Büchlein enthält 16 tolle Motive mit passender Bezeichnung. So können schon die Allerkleinsten beim Vorlesen spielend leicht die Bilder mit den richtigen Namen verbinden. Meiner Meinung nach ein ganz tolles Produkt von Duden!Themen:-Tiere-Zuhause-Spielzeug-Essen-Kleidung-Fahrzeuge

Die Bücher wurden für ein 14 Monate altes Kind bestellt. Wie gewohnt, erfolgte die Lieferung am nächsten Tag.Wie in der Produktbeschreibung angegeben, sind die Bücher relativ klein. Aber das reicht völlig aus. Durch die geringen Ausmaße können die Bücher auch gut für unterwegs mitgenommen werden.Wer die Beschreibung oder die Rezensionen nicht richtig liest, kann auch keine riesigen Bücher erwarten. Außerdem nicht für den geringen Preis.Die sechs Bücher sind pro Seite mit je einem Bild bedruckt und haben 16 Seiten. Demenstprechend sind für die Kinder 16 Bilder gedruckt. Die Qualität der Bilder ist top, die dargestellten Gegenstände sind Alltagsgegenstände (bis auf den Löwen oder Elefanten vielleicht). Das Kind schaut sich die Bücher gerne an, natürlich geht es schnell das Buch durchzublättern, aber das ist nachvollziehbar. Bei dem Buch "Essen" freut sich das Kind immer sehr und beisst gerne in die Seite, wo das Lieblingsessen abgebildet ist ;)Die Bücher sind sehr gut verarbeitet, nach zwei Wochen intensiver Nutzung sind bisher keinerlei Schäden vorhanden. Die Aufbewahrungsbox ist aus Pappe, hält erstaunlicherweise noch Stand, aber die Bücher werden sowieso überall verteilt.Von mir gibt es also eine klare Kaufempfehlung. Ich habe keine negativen Aspekte zu beanstanden.

Amazingly Good Book

If no one said anything, you might not even know that there's anything Kabbalah in the book. It's a very light reading with a lot of positive info and wisdom. I truly enjoyed the read and it has stuck with me over the years and made a valuable impact.

Here's a small excerpt of one of my favorite sections to give you a general idea of the type of teaching inside:

"So let's go back to the beginning of creation again. In the very opening sentences of the Torah we are told that the first human being was created in G-d's own image. And what was that image, you might ask? Consider the possibility that the first human being was actually a single entity that included both sexes. If you don't believe me, read Genesis, chapter 1, verse 27. This is the Soncino Press version of that very puzzling sentence, from which it is apparent that the translator had some trouble juggling genders: "And G-d created man in His own image, in the image of G-d created He him; male and female created He them.""

"So there we have it - the first human being, both male and female. And in this union of the sexes, in this oneness of the sexes, the first human being reflected the image of G-d - a oneness that includes otherness and yet remains one."

"Incidentally, this notion is clearly expressed in the words of a Jewish wedding ceremony. When two people get married, this blessing is recited: "Blessed are You, Hashem, King of the Universe, Who created the human being in Your image." Why is this blessing said at a wedding ceremony? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to say such a blessing when a child is born? The answer is no: it is through the uniting of a man and a woman that the image of G-d is most closely reflected."

"This is a very important concept. A lone individual does not reflect the image of G-d. An individual in unity with an other does. As we saw in the Kabbalistic picture of creation, the light of G-d is a oneness that includes an otherness. So until an individual makes a space to include an other, and allows that other to do the same, we do not have the oneness that reflects the image of G-d."

"But creating that kind of oneness is not simple. It takes real love. And real love is not simple, either. Yet it is possible, even though we usually stumble and fall - fall in and out of love - trying to learn how."

"If we go back to the Torah's story of creation, we come upon a passage, after the human being has been created, where G-d says: "It is not good for man to be alone." After every other act of creation we are told and it was good." But suddenly, "it is not good" - "not good to be alone.""

"G-d determines that the human being needs "a helpmate," but it is a while before Eve is created. Instead, all the birds and animals are created and the human being is asked to name them. At the conclusion of this, the Torah tells us, "... but for Adam no fitting helpmate was found.""

"Why wasn't Adam happy with an animal for a helpmate in his quest for love and oneness? Because an animal is subordinate to man. It's not his equal. In fact, the first human being had been commanded earlier: "Have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth." So Adam could not overcome his loneliness and find true love with a subordinate being, over whom he ruled."

"Indeed, the Torah is very clear in describing an appropriate spouse for Adam. The helpmate is to be kenegdo And the Torah plainly states that man did not find among the animals a helpmate who was kenegdo. The Hebrew word kenegdo means "against, opposite, parallel to." Although the passage is often mistranslated as "I will make a fitting helpmate for him," G-d actually says, "I will make a fitting helpmate *against* him." G-d intends that Adam's helpmate be someone who, in a very positive, respectful way, will stand opposite him and engage him on parallel ground."

"An animal may be a great help to Adam in doing his work, but an animal cannot be the significant other with whom he can share his existence, whom he can truly love. You, too, will not be ultimately satisfied in the quest for love unless it is with a helpmate who is kenegdo - a person whom you acknowledge as your equal and whose difference you respect. A helpmate kenegdo is an other. You cannot overcome loneliness and achieve true love if you are looking for someone who is subordinate to you, who has no mind of his or her own."

"Of course, that's not to say that some insecure people would prefer not to be challenged. I have heard men advise one another, "Get yourself a woman you can mold." And yes, a man might find someone young, inexperienced, and vulnerable and try to make her fit his ridiculous fantasy of a wife who considers him the lord and master. But he will only make his life harder as a result. His will be a very lonely existence and he will sorely miss the engagement that a helpmate kenegdo would have provided, an engagement that is so essential in the process of spiritual growth. All the sadder, in this way he will deprive himself of the opportunity of being the living manifestation of G-d, which is expressed through the ability to love, making a space within oneself to include a unique other."

"A relationship of dominance is not the image of G-d or the image of love - it is not making a space within yourself for an other and giving of yourself to that other. Only when two people give to each other and help each other within a relationship of mutual respect and inclusiveness can they receive the gift of love, the Everlasting Light of love."

"You are probably wondering how all this fits with the well-known verse from the Torah: "He will rule over you." Is this not the very source and justification for man's dominance over women? The answer is, "No, on the contrary." The Torah is telling us that this is a curse, not the norm, and certainly not any kind of an ideal to strive for. Indeed, as part of our mending work, we are responsible for nullifying this curse, just as modern technology in agriculture is nullifying the curse of "by the sweat of your brow shall you eat bread.""

"The Torah and the Kabbalah see the relationship between every couple as part of an ongoing process, fixing the cursed relationship of Adam and Eve and thereby receiving the light of love back into the world."

"This process of restoring the equilibrium between the sexes is seen in all the key male-and-female relationship, in the stories of the Torah. For example, G-d tells Abraham, "All that Sarah [your wife] has said to you, hearken to her voice." Like Sarah, Rebecca, the wife of Isaac, could hardly be described as subordinate to her husband. It was Rebecca who courageously coaxed her son Jacob into disguising himself as his manipulative brother, Esau, so that his blind father would give him the blessing of the first born, intended for Esau. Rebecca had the insight to know that it was truly Jacob who deserved the blessing, and she needed to orchestrate this ploy in order to help Isaac realize his own vulnerability to manipulation. Later, when Jacob married, he did not rule over his two wives, Rachel and Leah. We are told he worked hard to get their agreement before he moved the family, rather than merely announcing his decision regardless of their opinions on the matter."

"The Torah and the Kabbalah clearly teach us that true love is not achieved through domination. It takes mutual respect. It takes appreciation of each other's unique strengths. It takes a great deal of giving to each other."

"A quest for love is a quest for a helpmate kenegdo. It is a quest for someone who thinks differently and yet who will help you, not so much with the responsibilities of daily living as with the responsibilities of daily loving."

One of the best books I have ever read.....

Buy this book!!!! Endless Light is an extremely inspirational, approachable book. I have purchased it for many friends as gifts. I especially liked the chapter on Love and Creation. Rabbi David Aaron has a gift for explaining the esoteric in a humorous, understandable manner. This book was extremely impactful, and life changing. Here is a little taste: "Who you are is G-d's gift to you, who you become, is your gift to G-d"

How to love others.

This is an interesting book regarding the means by which a person comes to love others. The idea of making space for others within one's life is novel and yet, when you think about it, very true. To say that you are "one" with another person is somewhat faulty, as the author points out, because neither individual is swallowed so that they lose their identity. When that happens, then there is trouble within the relationship. It was quite interesting.

This book presents a narrative history of Europe, including Britain and Ireland, from the beginning of the seventeenth century to the Treaty of Nystadt in 1721. It is organized around geographical regions, paying as much attention to northern and eastern Europe, as to western and southern.

The narrative is divided into two sections, supported by maps, illustrations and other supporting material. The first covers the period from 1600 to1660 and is followed by an assessment of the themes that emerge from this section. The second takes up the story from 1660 and follows it through to 1721. The conclusion reflects on the most significant themes of the post-1660 decades.

Whilst the core of the book is devoted to the political and diplomatic evolution of Europe in the seventeenth century, the author also integrates the visual arts and sciences into the discussion and assesses their influence on the wider historical development of the continent.

About the Author

David J. Sturdy is Professor of Early Modern History at the University of Ulster in Coleraine. His previous publications include The d'Aligres de la Rivi�re: Servants of the Bourbon State in the Seventeenth Century (1986), Science and Social Status in Early Modern France: The Members of the Acad�mie des Sciences, 1666–1750 (1995) and Louis XIV (1998).

Examining theories of human evolution and of prenatal hormonal determination of "gender-role" behavior, of sex differences in cognition, and of sexual orientation, the author shows how assumptions laden with social values affect the description, presentation, and interpretation of data. In particular, Longino argues that research on the hormonal basis of "sex-differentiated behavior" involves assumptions not only about gender relations but also about human action and agency. She concludes with a discussion of the relation between science, values, and ideology, based on the work of Habermas, Foucault, Keller, and Haraway.

A classic in the field of science and values

Among philosophers of science -- and not just feminist philosophers of science -- this book is considered one of the classic philosophical studies of the interaction between science, on the one hand, and ethical and political values, on the other. While perhaps a bit daunting for non-academics -- it's written by a professional philosopher for other professional philosophers -- it's extremely worthwhile and highly recommended for people interested in ethical controversies over science, science and public policy, or postmodernism and objectivity. If you're intimidated by highly abstract academic writing, you might ease in with Heather Douglas' Science, Policy, and the Value-Free Ideal or Philip Kitcher's Science in a Democratic Society (Prometheus Prize). (Full disclosure: Douglas is a friend of mine.) An excellent and very concrete (not theoretical; written by historians) recent book is Naomi Oreskes and Erik Conway's Merchants of Doubt: How a Handful of Scientists Obscured the Truth on Issues from Tobacco Smoke to Global Warming.

Longino's book was written just before the height of a major intellectual controversy called the Science Wars. On one side were sociologists, historians, literary theorists, feminists, critical race theorists, postmodernists, and others who challenged the ideas of truth and objectivity and the privileged status of science. On the other side were scientists and philosophers, especially physicists such as Alan Sokal, who tried to defend truth, objectivity, and science. (Sokal committed a famous hoax on the postmodernist journal /Social Text/ in 1996; you can read about it on Wikipedia.)

In my opinion -- and I'm a scholar who works on these issues -- much of what was written during the Science Wars was quite poorly-argued polemics, and were a waste of time when they were written. By contrast, /Science as Social Knowledge/ is extremely well argued, and attempts to synthesize the two basic positions in the controversy. On the one hand, Longino agrees with the sociologists, feminists, etc., that the old idea of objectivity as value-free science cannot stand. Except for the most rarefied of fields, science depends on assumptions that reflect ethical and political values. It is simply impossible for science to be free of values, and an impossible ideal is worse than useless. On the other hand, Longino believes that this does not mean we need to throw out ideas of truth or a version of objectivity, and in this way she agrees with the scientists and philosophers. Objectivity, on her view, is produced by critically examining the reasoning and assumptions made by scientists, from the perspective of all different sets of ethical and political values. For example, up through the 1970s, primatology was loaded with sexist assumptions and methods and (not accidentally) was done primarily by men. After a generation of feminist-identified women entered the field, they were quite critical of this sexism, and primatology became more objective in response. By subjecting the field to critical scrutiny, feminist values made primatology more, not less, objective.

I do not entirely agree with Longino's views, but that does not change the fact that her book is a landmark of the field and is still well worth reading today.

A Class Review

This was one of the required readings for Rice University's Philosophy of Science Spring 2004 class. The following is a brief account of the book by various members of the 40 person class:
PROs: ~ Chapters one through four and chapter ten
~ The discussion of objectivity as a social process in chapter four.
~ The focus on the differences among the various branches of science: hard sciences (physic & chemistry) vs. moderate sciences (psychology) vs. soft sciences (sociology and anthropology)
CONs: ~ Chapters five through nine
~ The writing style (too philosophical, too much time spent discussing other views as opposed to the authors)
~ Too little said about the hard sciences
~ Pushing feminist agenda
~ Critical discussion on scientific studies unpersuasive

Despite the CONs the professor (a philosophy professor with a specialization in logic) still believes that, in comparison to other books on similar topics, this one does the best job of presenting the material. The class was a little more skeptical and recommends to future readers to focus on chapters one through four and ten and pay little attention to the remainder.

Very disappointed - RETURNED

I purchased two books, one for myself & one for a friend, BUT returned both of them. The book size is about 4"X5" and reminded me of a children's book. I have used the Pop.O.Licious website and LOVE IT, Joey is VERY talented and creative. I was just disappointed in the book design and quality, not the content. If the physical book was bigger " and more book-like" I would have kept them and given one to my friend. It might just be personal taste though, the decision is yours.

Wonderful book.

I love this book. Great pictures and easy to do instruction.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to make cake pops.
The instructions are so easy that my daughter and her friend had a geat time making them and they turned out great, looking just like the picture.

1960's Houston Wealth and Murder

"Blood and Money" was a winding tale of wealth, murder and debauchery in mid-20th century Houston, Texas. The book began with the interesting lives of Ash Robinson, his daughter Joan and her husband John Hill. After Joan's suspicious demise the book went in a new, very intriguing direction introducing the reader to new characters from a different world entirely of those previously mentioned.

The story was very intriguing as the twists and turns and mystery took the reader various places. Unfortunately, like most true crime books, it hits a snag during the trial phase. Some books devote a quarter or even half the book on the trial phase and unless it was a darn good show it becomes boring. In this case, the trial was only as interesting as the defendant(s) on trial. Because I had no real feelings one way or the other about the accused I was bored with the many pages dedicated to the trial.

Still, the book was good as the story was good. The author, Thomas Thompson, if nothing else, knows how to choose a good story.

A true life tale of Texan greed, love and murder.

"Blood and Money" first published in 1976 is a true page turner and a major piece of non-fiction journalism. Set thiry years ago in the moneyed mansions of Houstons River Oaks it is a spellbinding tale of an oil millionares(Ash Robinson) obsessive love for his daughter(Joan Robinson) and her ill fated third marraige to a rising star plastic surgeon(John Hill). Events take tragic and unexpected turns carrying along the readers emotions. Then the author brings us through a series of court trials deepeening the characters and shading their motives. Abruptly the story leaves behind the privileged rich lives and burrows into the sleazy underbelly of Texan prostitution and petty crime culminating in a final pursuit and spectacular murder trial. No fiction is a match for the awful truth here and the writer Thomas Thompson meticulously unravels this bizarre saga of greed, power, lust, love and murder. All the characters are deeply shaded and by force of sheer detail their lives are brought into vivid focus. It is a sprawling narrative similar to Norman Mailers "The Executioners Song" although largely confined to the somewhat strange state of Texas. Thompson must have utilized every possible material(court transcrits, autopsy reports, police files, photographs) and person avialable to him. Conversations are carefully reconstructed, events are colorfully described and the author seamlessly insinuates himself into the mind of each of the characters. Readers enjoy a fly- on-the-wall perspective of the characters doings and actions. Ultimately "Blood and Money" can fairly take its place alongside other New Journalism classics like "In Cold Blood". It would have been nice however if the author had included a preface, (some notes about his research techniques) photographs and character epilogues. The hard cover Doubleday publication does not contain any supplementry information perhaps other versions do. This calibre of jornalism is damned impressive and it's a pity we don't have its originator Thomas Thompson with us any longer.
