This is an expanded and reworked version of Malcom's New Yorker essay on the "pscyhopathology" of the journalist/subject relationship, sparked by Jeffrey MacDonald's libel suit against Fatal Vision author Joe McGinniss. Even nonjournalists will be fascinated by Malcolm's discussion of the still puzzling MacDonald case; McGinnis's rather two-faced missives to the imprisoned MacDonald; and Joseph Wambaugh's libel trial testimony about journalistic "untruths." In an afterword, Malcolm comments on the heated debate her essay invoked in the journalism community, and concludes that, like it or not, every journalist must, to some degree, tussle with this ethical dilemma. An elegantly written, thought-provoking, and sometimes outrageous essay that should be in every media collection.

worth reading

An interesting essay on journalistic ethics. However, reading the rebuttal that McGinniss has appended to the newest edition of "Fatal Vision" the argument could be made that Janet Malcolm also played fast and loose with her reporting of the MacDonald v. McGuiniss lawsuit. Given her scant attention to the facts of the MacDonald murder case, you could get the impression from this book that MacDonald is innocent of the murder of his wife and daughters when in fact the evidence is overwhelmingly against MacDonald. A good read, but you need to read McGinniss' rebuttal to make a fair assessment.

Publish or Peril?

Malcolm is at her best when she gets under the surface of her subject, and she her writing, insight and perceptions are brilliant in this particular arena. She brings light to often neglected issues of honesty, intent and outcome in reporting.

Joe McGinniss fell into that murky area of journalism while deceiving Jeffrey McDonald because he needed to quarantee a financial success for his publisher and himself. This ruse may have cost him his integrity and literary career. I purchased his book immediately after reading Malcolm's criticism, needing to see the book myself before reaching a final conclusion.This is not an easy subject, nor is McDonald a sympathetic character. Janet Malcolm exposes the amazing and elaborate deception used by McGinniss to trap and crucify his subject. Her investigation into this relationship is so brilliant that you're hooked from the beginning!

Quick Read, Fascinating Look at Truth and Integrity in Journalism

The Journalist and the Murderer is really a must-read for aspiring journalists, and writers, and anyone interested in what goes into postmodern character development. Malcom - with whom I disagree, as a human - asserts that there is a cynical and manipulative relationship that governs all interactions between interviewer and interviewed, and to ignore this is to either be disingenuous or naive. The story follows how she came to conclude that journalist and author Joe MacGuinness was a jerk, and the subject of a book of his, a convicted mass murderer, was innocent.

The book makes for compelling reading. It's well written. It examines terrifically interesting topics from an interesting perspective. Paradoxically, it espouses and falls victim to many of the very biases and assertions that Malcom herself describes as bad, or in poor taste, and, ultimately, one is left with the sense that she doesn't like herself very much.

Su acercamiento a ellos resulta interesante y desquiciado, al plantear la existencia de los mismos en otro plano de la realidad. Y esta idea es la que �l se ha esforzado por llevar al papel en sus historietas. Una lectura muy entretenida por el relato de lo hist�rico y lo personal.

Definitive Text for Shaft Alignment Work

Quite simply, this is the definitive text for shaft alignment work. If you do any type of machinery alignment, you need a copy of this book. Just about every situation is covered in this text. The author does seem to have a bias against "laser" alignment devices, but other than this, there is little to fault in this book. Highly recommended.

There are very few books about machinery alignment. This is the best I have encountered for machinery alignment. The tried and true methods and techniques discussed in this book are what is used in the industry for large rotating equipment.

An added bonus of this book is the detailed history of rotating equipment and related alignment methods.

If you enjoy the books of the late Leonard Ravenhill then you will love the writings of Samuel Chadwick. This late English Methodist pastor will burn you with the Word of God and give you a deeper hunger for prayer. This book dives into the Scriptures and gives practical pointers for those who hunger to learn to pray.
No serious disciple should go a lifetime without reading Samuel Chadwick!

Nice devotional type reading

This is a wonderfully, simply written book on prayer that anybody can understand. Though perhaps an example or two is a bit dated, as it has been nearly 100 yrs since this book was written, so the author uses some examples that most people probably will not quite understand. There is much light that Chadwick gives on prayer, and I enjoyed what he had to say. However, I do feel there are stronger books on prayer by E.M. Bounds and Leonard Ravenhill that might take one deeper than this book does. Still though, one should not pass this book up.

While a few of the questions are easy and right out of the lab text

My Security+ class uses this lab manual extensively. In the beginning of the semester our instructor warned us that the questions at the end of the labs were difficult, and not to worry, as he would be dropping the 3 lowest scores. I wasn't all that scared after being in IT for 20 years. Well, now we're in week 10 and I absolutely LOATHE this book. While a few of the questions are easy and right out of the lab text, a great majority of them are difficult, require outside research, and are worded almost in a tricky manner. If you are a Windows Server 2008 expert you will likely breeze through this, but I am definitely not.

The book is written by a different author than the main Security+ text by Cengage, and correlates with said book very little. The chapters align, yes, but that's about as far as it goes.

This is not to say that there isn't a lot to be learned from the labs in this book... there most definitely is a TON to learn. But if you are using this in a class where your grade depends on answering these questions, be prepared for possible frustration.

This book is the worst. The questions are out there at times and the book is riddled with errors. Example: Lab 9-3 Has you add users to your domain after created 3 groups. You then assign the new users to the groups. It then tells you to log out of the server and log back in as one of the new users you just created, but guess what? You can't do that because a normal user is not allowed to log into the domain controller. You can't go on from there, so hopefully you aren't doing this at home without any instructor to help you. God forbid you're trying to learn this stuff on your own. Also, if you don't know anything about Windows Server 2008, you are going to have lots of problems.

Selten so viel unnützes Geschwurbel in einem Buch versammelt gesehen! Vorrangiges Ziel des Autors war es anscheinend, Sätze mit möglichst vielen Fremdwörtern zu bilden, die dann aber leider vollkommen inhaltsleer sind. Die hochtrabende Wortwahl und das scheinbar innovative Durcheinander von Text und Bild verkommen zum Selbstzweck. Die vielen "vielleicht", "eventuell" und "meistens" helfen einem auch nicht weiter. Selbst das "detaillierte" Glossar ist ein Witz!Das Buch ist weder geeignet für die angegebene Zielgruppe Studenten und Studienabgänger noch für Interessierte, die sich vor einer Beruf- bzw. Studienwahl erstmal informieren darüber möchten, was als Illustrator auf sie zukommt. Über die paar Belanglosigkeiten, die das Buch vermittelt, ist sich jeder mit halbwegs gesundem Menschenverstand ohnehin im Klaren.Den einen Stern gibt es nur für die immerhin reichhaltige und anregende Auswahl an Abbildungen - Illustrationen verschiedener Illustratoren -, auch wenn dazu fast nichts beispielhaft erklärt wird und manche Bildchen in so winziger Größe abgedruckt sind, dass nur eine Lupe dem Verständnis hilft.Das, was dieses Buch verspricht, aber nicht im mindesten hält, findet sich in dem empfehlenswerten Buch "So finden Sie Ihren Weg als Illustrator" von Darrel Rees.

sehr schnelle Lieferung , es ist ein umfassendes Buch und gut aufgeteilt, so dass es gut zu lesen ist, wer sich für Illustration interessiert kann Wissen mitnehmen

Das buch wurde gebraucht gekauft und hat meine Erwartungen übertroffen.

Schon durch seine ansprechende Covergestaltung fällt dieses Buch auf. Aber auch die nachfolgenden Seiten sind nicht weniger toll illustriert. Anstatt nur über das Thema 'Illustration' zu sprechen, wird es hier auch praktisch angewandt. Nicht nur optisch, sondern auch inhaltlich überzeugt das Buch, wobei simple Gedankengänge genauso berücksichtigt werden wie Empfehlungen das Herangehen an anspruchsvolle Aufträge. Vielleicht ist dieses Buch gerade deswegen auch für Seiteneinsteiger interessant.

Wie immer kam das Buch super-pünktlich bei mir an und ich muss sagen, dass es mir bisher echt total gut gefällt. Trotz der vielen "Fachbegriffen" liest es sich wirklich gut und vorallem verständlich. Es ist alles sehr übersichtlich angeordnet und es sind viele Bild-Beispiele dabei.
