This is where raster GIS started...

...well not really, but this book sparked the scientific interest in it. The concepts surrounding surface analysis date back to late 1970s and were championed by Dana Tomlin with his PhD dissertation in 1983, which was later published as this book. Here, Tomlin introduces map algebra operators based on how a computer algorithm obtains data values for processing raster surfaces. He identifies three fundamental classes: local, focal and zonal functions.
Tomlin is a must to any academic student of GIS, since much or nearly all work on raster GIS springs off from Tomlin's work. The illustrations clearly show that this is an old book, but the knowlegde still remains as brilliant today as it was then.
This is a book you want to own, simply because it is very sought after and constantly unavailable from your university library.

About the Author
John Davis (1953 - ) was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He was educated at Case Western Reserve University (BA) (one of the top ten universities in the United States), Seattle University School of Law (JD), and, New York University School of Law (LL.M post-doctoral) (one of the top ten law schools in the United States). John is fluent in seven languages (including ancient Latin and Greek). He has travelled the world over, many times, and has represented clients, in his thirty five year career, such as the United States Government and the Federation of Russia. He has been a prosecutor three times in his 35 year career. He has held positions such as Assistant Attorney General, United States Speaker, and Assistant District Attorney, Chief Wing JAG, U. S. Air Force Auxilliary, and Supreme Court Law Clerk. For most of his career in civil law, John was a successful international lawyer, practicing in many nations around the world. John is now retired and lives in the South of France.

Every Man's Pocket Guide to Life and Liberty

We have entered a deadly and dangerous time for men. We are hunted as a prize for the self-aggrandizement of any woman who wants attention, sympathy, to live out a rape fantasy, or for even more dark and sinister reasons. Due process is denied men in the face of even the most ludicrous or impossible allegation. Allegations can come from third parties and be just as dangerous. Men can be denied access to even the allegation, denied the right to question witnesses or even the complainant. Decisions can be made in secret with secret data. Lives are destroyed.

“How To Avoid False Allegations of Rape” is a must read for any man involved with women whether intimate relations, at work, school, or even in your marriage. It is the relationship primer every young pubescent male should receive as they enter a life differentiated from their parents. A great standout for justice!

An important book that can help men. There is an epidemic in our country of women yelling rape! But they are simply lying in order to hurt a man and men in general, usually vindictively. Women are even being coached by feminists to claim rape, physical abuse and even child abuse against men, they once claimed they loved. When women fight, they fight with intention to hurt emotionally. And that pain runs deep, but when men hurt no one cares.

Inhaltsangabe:Lilli ist Mutter des kleinen Emils, der sich zu seinem Geburtstag nichts weiter wünscht als seinen Papa. Das Problem ist nur, Lilli kennt ihn nicht, da sie sich mit fünfunddreißig Jahren für eine anonyme Samenspende entschieden hat, um überhaupt noch Mutter zu werden. Damals war Lilli der Meinung, sie würde den Vater nie treffen wollen, inzwischen hat sich ihre Sichtweise geändert. Denn Lilli hat einen gutartigen Hirntumor, der zwar entfernbar ist, aber sie hat natürlich Angst, dass etwas schiefgeht, und will Emil gut versorgt wissen. Mithilfe des Journalisten Patrick kann sie Hannes, den Samenspender, tatsächlich ausfindig machen. Anfangs ist er alles andere als begeistert, nun Vater zu sein. Doch mit der Zeit fügt er sich in seine Vaterrolle ein. Lilli und Hannes kommen sich näher, das Problem ist nur, Hannes ist verlobt.Meine Meinung:Das Buch ist die meiste Zeit aus Lills Sicht in der dritten Person geschrieben, nur im letzten Kapitel ist es aus der Perspektive von Hannes geschrieben. Lilli ist eine wirklich liebenswerte Protagonistin, die vom Leben stark gebeutelt wird. Sie hat jede Menge Schicksalsschläge hinter sich, versucht dennoch stark zu sein. Ich habe mich die ganze Zeit gefragt, was diese arme Frau noch alles mitmachen muss. Emil ist ihr ein und alles, für den sie nur das Beste will. Hannes mochte ich auch, es ist verständlich, dass er zunächst überrumpelt war und nicht gleich vor Freude Luftsprünge gemacht hat.Die Story hat mir wirklich gut gefallen, ich fand es teilweise sehr realistisch, zumindest was Lillis Schicksal betrifft. Es gibt ja Menschen, die besonders viel Leid ertragen müssen. Dass sie beziehungsweise Patrick Hannes durch Anzeigen gefunden hat, könnte in der Realität auch möglich sein. Ich mochte den Schreibstil und habe mit Lilli mitgefiebert. Umso mehr habe ich mich über das Ende gefreut, es war zwar zu erahnen, wie es ausgeht, es ist aber auch schön, es dann auch zu lesen. Das Cover ist schön, es wirkt freundlich und weckt Aufmerksamkeit.Mein Fazit: ›Mein Wunsch bist du‹ ist eine schöne berührende Liebesgeschichte, die von mir 5 Sterne erhält.

Die Entscheidung bereut sie nicht, aber als sie schwer krank wird und auch ihr Sohn Emil nach dem Vater fragt, macht sie sich doch darum Gedanken. Also entscheidet sie sich, auf die Suche nach dem anonymen Spender zu machen. Das ist auch alles legitim und Lilli zeigt sehr große Stärke, in dem sie sich für ein Darsein als alleinerziehende Mutter entscheidet.Emils Wunsch ist natürlich verständlich, aber Lilli hätte sich an den Wunsch der Anonymität des Spenders halten sollen. Letztendlich ist er meiner Meinung nach nicht wirklich der Vater. Sein Samen sind ein Mittel zum Zweck. Aber sei es drum, Lilli spürt ihn mit Hilfe eines Jornalisten auf. Nach anfänglichen Schwierigkeiten, sind Emil und Hannes sofort ein Herz und eine Seele und auch Lilli verliebt sich. Das ging mir alles zu einfach und zu schnell. Immerhin geht es hier um eine 40-Jährige Frau und um keinen Teenager. Natürlich darf und soll sie nach ihren Liebesglück suchen, aber das lief doch ein wenig zu einfach.Lilli verheimlicht lange ihre Krankheit, nur ihre Eltern wissen Bescheid. Das ist auch einer der Gründe, warum sie ein Vater für Emil haben will, halt für den schlimmsten möglichen Fall. Da hatte ich wenig Verständnis für. Lilli hat ihre Eltern, sie hat super Freundinnen, die selber Mutter sind und sie hat einen Bruder, der zwar nicht auftaucht, aber sicherlich auch einspringen würde. Warum denkt Lilli, dass ein komplett Unbekannter, der dazu eigentlich anonym bleiben wollte, besser geignet ist. Ihre Krankheit ist nicht ohne, aber indem Lilli wartet, macht sie es nur noch schlimmer. Gerade sie, die alles auf sich nimmt, um ihren Sohn glücklich zu sehen, sollte es eigentlich besser wissen. Sie hätte die OP so schnell möglich machen sollen. Daher konnte ich Lilli nicht wirklich in ihren Handeln verstehen.Dann ist da noch Hannes. Er ist ein super Kerl, verheimlicht aber erstmal, dass er eine Verlobte hat. Auch das habe ich nicht verstanden. Am Anfang des Kennenlernens waren noch keine Gefühle im Spiel, also warum sagt er nicht von Anfang die Wahrheit? Sonst ist Hannes mehr oder weniger ein Traummann, zumindest für Lilli.Wie es am Ende kommen muss, geht alles gut aus. Bei einem Liebesroman war das auch so zu erwarten. Das ist vollkommen in Orndung. Problematischer fand ich eher, dass viele Sachen vorhersehbar waren wie bspw. Lillis zweites Geheimnis. Ich finde es immer sehr schade, wenn der ganze Verlauf der Geschichte so vorhersehbar ist, wie es hier ist.Am Ende kam auch noch einen zweiten potentiellen Vater ins Spiel. Die Einführung dieser Figur passt überhaupt nicht. Warum hat er sich überhaupt bei Lilli gemeldet? Seine Motiavtion war überhaupt nicht klar, Lust auf das Vaterdasein hat er auf jeden Fall nicht.Insgesamt fand ich es gut, dass das Thema der künstlichen Befruchtung hier thematisiert wurde, aber ich finde es schade, dass damit nicht mehr gemacht wurde. Auch Lillis Krankheit ist keine Seltenheit, also auch hier ein gutes Thema. Aber insgesamt gibt es zu viele Dramen, die alle zu einfach und gut geendet haben. Hans-Joachim Löwer, geboren 1948, war drei Jahrzehnte lang Auslandsreporter für den Stern und Mitarbeiter der deutschsprachigen Ausgabe von National Geographic. Seit 2001 arbeitet er als freier Autor. Für seine Bücher unternahm er viele riskante Rucksacktouren durch politische Krisengebiete im Nahen Osten, im südlichen Afrika und in Lateinamerika. So unterschiedlich können die Beweggründe für das Aufstellen von Gipfelkreuzen sein - im Gedenken an gute Bergkameraden (zb Törlspitze in OÖ) oder im Andenken an Tragödien (zb. am Langkofel in den Dolomiten) werde sie aufgestellt... manchmal aber auch aus Dankbarkeit (zb der Schober in Salzburg) und dann gibt's nocht 100 andere Gründe, warum einzelne Menschen oder auch Gruppen Gipfelkreuze auf den Gipfeln der Berge aufstellen...Natürlich habe ich in diesem Buch als erstes die Gipfelkreuze der umgebenden Heimat heraus gelesen... Der Brunnkogel mit seinem Zünfte- oder Berufe-Kreuz war mir bekannt, auch der Aberfeldkogel mit den Europäischen Staaten... aber dass am Kitzstein (Nähe Bosruck) das Gipfelkreuz aufgestellt wurde, weil ein geplantes Atommüll-Endlager vom Bosruck abgewendet werden konnte, war mir ganz Neu und stellt diesen Gipfel für mich in ein ganz anderes Licht! Großartig, dass ich solche und noch einige weitere Gipfelkreuzgeschichten über Gr. Priel und andere Berge meiner Heimat in diesem Buch finden konnte!Aber natürlich finden sich Infos in dem Buch zu Kreuzen im gesamten Alpenbogen von der Schweiz, über Italien, nach Österreich und auch zu deutschen Gipfeln. Zu vielen bekannten Bergen, wie Großglockner, Ortler, Zugspitze, Piz Buin, Großer Moosstock, usw. gibt's überaus interessantes über Ihre Gipfelkreuze zu berichten!Das Buch ist kein Wanderbuch - sondern ein Bildband über die Gipfelkreuze der Alpen mit Geschichte und Geschichten. Ja kurze Hinweise zum Gipfelanstieg finden sich auch - aber die Hauptsache machen die Texte mit den wunderbar dazu passenden und gut recherchierten Bildern aus. Ein Buch, dass ich gerne auf meinem Nachtkästchen liegen habe - zum Quer durch lesen - Mal diesen Berg, mal diesen... und immer wieder denke ich mir: "Unglaublich was mancherorts geleistet wurde und wie schön es nicht wäre, sich gleich morgen aufzumachen um diesen Berg, dieses Gipfelkreuz und seine Geschichte persönlich kennen zu lernen..." na vielleicht geht sich ja heuer das ein oder andere Gipfelchen noch aus... das eine oder andere aus dem Buch könnte da schon dabei sein ;-)Meine Absolute Empfehlung für Gipfelstürmer oder Sammler, die nicht nur den Berg hinauf rennen sondern auch ein bisschen mehr erfahren wollen! In diesem Buch, auf 350 Seiten gibt's den passenden Fundus an interesanten, berührenden, skurilen und nachdenklich stimmenden Geschichten!

Theory of Flight: The Fundamentals of Aeronautical Design

To say the text is a classic work on the subject is an understatement. It offers a lucid introduction to the many concepts of aeronautical design that traditionally challenge students. It is a required text for those wishing to advance their understanding of theoretical aerodynamics and its profound implications toward applied aircraft design. Though prerequisite knowledge of aeronautics will augment the text, none is assumed by the author and the mathematical derivations presented within are complete. Most of the empirical data and equations are still quite valid although the text was printed decades ago, before aerodynamics attained its current level of analysis. Anyone involved in the development of subsonic conventional aircraft will want to add this to their research library as a valuable reference.

Great comprehensive intro to aeronautical engineering

This book is unlike any on its subject I have ever encountered. Even though the author of this book passed away in 1953, it has a clearness and depth directed towards understanding the essentials of flight that make it a worthwhile - and very inexpensive - read today. Of course, to supplement this book, given the progress made in the field since the author's death, you'll require several textbooks.

Part one is entitled "Equilibrium and Steady Flow in the Atmosphere". Chapter one of that section, though correct in its physics, is simply not applicable to high-speed or turbine-powered aircraft. The other chapters in part one, though, are a great introduction to the dynamics of incompressible fluids that are still completely relevant.

Part two is entitled "The Airplane Wing", and contains material that the author not only expertly compiled, he actually contributed much of this material to wing theory himself. Again, you'll need supplementary material to be current on this information.

Part three is entitled "Propeller and Engine". Where propellers are still in use, the information in this book is correct. The basics on the airplane engine are here, but again time has marched on as to the forefront of technology.

Part four on "Airplane Performance" talks about performance problems in propeller planes. You'll need other material to understand how the jet engine affects performance.

Part five on "Airplane Control and Stability" contains great sections on the theory of non-uniform flight and also a very clear introduction to the theory of dynamic stability. Information on automatic controls is missing, though.

I'd say read this book and use it as a reference as a basis for understanding the mathematics and theory of flight. Use it as a firm foundation for learning about the more modern aspects of the field. One thing I really appreciated about this book is how it is essentially self-contained. The author develops the mathematics as needed, and it is generally well-illustrated, which is generally not a feature of older engineering textbooks. There are problems at the end of each chapter. Unfortunately, though, answers are not included. It is definitely geared for the upper-level undergraduate engineering student that has already finished physics, calculus, statics, and dynamics. Highly recommended.

Classic Book, in depth analysis, relevant and useful

Dover books are typically designed to last and this is no exception. Much of the work behind Theory of Flight came before World War II, materials and technology substantially advanced since then. However, the detail and depth of understanding offered by this book is definitely worthy of consideration. One may read it without plunging into the calculus but to really understand it, if you aren't fresh (in a year's calculus) bring a college calc text for company. That said, the scope of this book is relevant for modern subsonic airplane engineering and design. Upcoming drone or UAV model builders can gain insight for practical application from this book but should be aware of its limitations in the lower Reynold's number or slower speed and smaller aircraft specialization.

In all these areas, this handbook offers essays that do justice to the diversity of view points, while also providing, insofar as possible, a coherent ensemble.

as good as the first

Quicker read than the first but still good and gave a nice look into the Swedish boating world. I was very happy to see one of the female characters grow some gumption and stand up to an 18th century husband!! Not much development into the main protagonist male character though. The plot wasnt too difficult to figure out about half way in, but entertaining nonetheless and I enjoy the Swedish backdrop.

Viveca Sten captures the feel of summer in both of the first 2 Sandhamn mysteries. The season becomes an integral part of the story. Settings are brilliantly conveyed and characters neatly drawn. some plot twists are spottable .........but it's the journey that is enjoyable! Highly recommended - I look forward to the next!

Totally awesome, an exciting read. Sweden must be an exciting country and very beautiful. You get whisked there as you read this book, how great is that! And you don't have to leave your arm chair.
Viveca writes a very suspenseful loaded book. She has become a favorite of mine. I purchased the kindle version on pre release. The translation is perfect no mistakes and all grammar is correct YAY a joy to read.
