About the Author
As a child, Magdalena Melzer loved to spend hours sewing colourful buttons and developing her love for craft and creativity. When her own children arrived, Magdalena rediscovered crocheting again and the magic of brightly coloured yarns. In 2012, she launched her own label, Curlyz, a small enterprise with a grand passion for designing and crocheting using diverse colour combinations. In every free moment, you can be sure to find her crocheting between mountains of wool, surrounded by many colourful crochet creations. She lives in Stuttgart, Germany.
Anne Thiemeyer’s love of needlework began when she was a child when her aunt taught her crocheting, knitting and embroidery. Today she has turned her hobby into a career. After completing her studies in textile design, she worked in various editorial departments, while specialising in her favourite craft — crochet. Since 2000, Anne has worked as a freelance designer and consultant for various publishers and yarn suppliers. She lives in Stuttgart, Germany.

Twenty Great Crochet Projects!

The facts:
This is an original German pattern book that has been translated and republished for the US and UK market. All patterns use the German yarn, Schachenmayr. All yarns listed in the book are for sale online in the US. Some exact colors may not be available, but the type of yarn is definitely available. The yarn needed for each project is listed by weight and not number of skeins. The weight of one skein (as well as yardage/meters) is given, so a little math will get you the number of skeins you need to buy. The thickness (or classification/weight) of the yarn is not listed, such as bulky or aran. Knowledgeable crocheters may be able to determine the yarn thickness by the yardage/weight of the skeins or from the photos but I had to look up this info on Ravelry. Most projects use bulky or super bulky, other than those, I think there was 2 aran yarns and 1 DK.
The instructions are written row by row, with 14 of the patterns using charts in the back of the book. I find the instructions very clear. Main instructions are in US terms and UK is in parenthesis. There is a "How it's done" at the back of the book that has instruction on the basics. Most patterns are rated at a difficulty of 1 or 2. Four of the patterns were rated a 3, the most difficult in the book (4 is the highest, and none of those here).
The book has MANY color photos of EACH project. All photos are of models actually wearing the "scoodies". The illustrations in the appendix are large and well drawn. The pattern chart comes with a key. The books is beautifully done and a nice size/weight to put in a project tote, just under 9" square (22cm square).
My thoughts:
I LOVE THIS BOOK! The scoodies are all incredibly cute. Many of them have an European flair to them. Most are made with the bulky or super bulky yarn and look adorable. I plan to make these as gifts for this Christmas, that is, if I can part with them after they are finished. This book is definitely worth the purchase.

Cool construction

The designs & construction of these is very cool; however, none of the weights of the yarns used are given, and all have weird names. They look to be fast to make, but I hate to have to research yarn weights before I start a project. If you like hooded scarves, these provide more and different construction methods. Neat ideas and great color work. One thing I wish the authors had done was include the charts on the same pages as the project. Charts at the end are also a bit of a drawback for this work.

I really like this book and it's one that I will be making a number of projects from.

Fantastic value for money.
Scoodies are becoming more popular
as they are so versatile and are a
fantastic to keep you warm in winter.
This book brings you 20 hooded scarves
and cowls for you to crochet.
You really can't complain about the value
for money!
The thing I like the most about this book
is that each of the designs are different
from the last.
Using different yarns, stitches and colours
they are all different.
Each of the designs has a level of difficulty
so there is something for every level of crocheter.
At the back of the book is a how it's done
guide including pictures as well
as charts for some of the designs.
The patterns are in written format and are
really easy to follow.
Some of the designs are more practical
and some of the others are practical
and huge fun.
I love the idea of having different
ones to go with different things in my wardrobe.
They would also make fantastic gifts.
I really like this book and it's one
that I will be making a number
of projects from.
