Great workbook!

This has helped my seven year old son pick out the main idea of a story. He is a strong reader. I was having trouble explaining to him how to find the main point of a story, and this workbook did the trick! Highly recommend!

Reading Passages

WOW! I teach 3rd grade and love using this series to help prepare my students for their state tests. They are great for teaching comprehension/reading skills and testing skills. I would reccommend them to anyone in the teaching profession and parents:)

Excellent learning tool to build comprehension skills

I'm the parent of a seven-year-old who just started second grade. Reading was one of my focus areas since she was a baby - we read together and now she is reading independently, working her way through chapter books. Though she is a voracious reader, I wanted to make sure she understood what she was reading and knew how to focus in on key reading areas such as finding the main idea, identifying supporting details, etc. all of which are important ingredients for successful reading outcomes.
I chanced upon these Scholastic series of books focusing on building key reading skills and have found them to be very useful. My daughter actually enjoys working on the exercises because the passages are short and interesting! The questions are well-designed and help young children, Grades 2-3 build skills in the areas of identifying main ideas and supporting details. Another bonus - the passages comprise non-fiction selections which are engaging and informative. I recommend all the books in the series. I get her to work on a page a day (or more if she insists) but the point is to build essential reading skills that will not only make her a better reader, but a smarter and more critical one.
